O, What Comfort Brings The Night

O, what comfort brings the night!

The darkening sky\'s frown

Broken only by street light

Poking holes in it\'s gown;

Bitter winds that swirl the rain

Bosom friends in disguise

Once they relent and refrain

And the stinging leaves our eyes;

The beckoning haven of the candle glow

Away from the rasping din

The flame flickers to and fro

Drawing the moths within;

Everything of the night

Does not defeat but inspire

Just a fore-runner to the light

And the sun\'s daily fire;

High in those pillows of doom-clouds

Moving on, leaving not a trace

Wrap myself in their freezing shrouds

But still with a smile on my face.
