Joy to the Store

The day after Christmas is when you should shop

At the grocery store where everyone\'s not.

They\'re busy returning the things they don\'t like

Or perhaps something else that isn\'t quite right.

To breeze down the aisles is really a pleasure.

When nobody\'s here, it\'s a time that I treasure.

To ponder the items they\'ve put on the shelves,

I have to admit, I\'m enjoying myself.

No people, no carts to get in my way.

Why can\'t it be like this every day?

I\'m the only person in line at the deli.

I can “buy one and get one” of boxed vermicelli.

It\'s funny because I don\'t usually buy it,

Or eat it because of my new low-carb diet.

Look, all of the items I need are well-stocked.

To find that special Greek yogurt, now that really rocks.

But I\'ve filled up my cart, time to check it all out.

Time to buy all those gift cards in different amounts,

Paying in cash from each one\'s envelope.

And if I forget I can still buy that coke.

Oh what a joy this excursion has been.

The better to know I\'ve committed no sin.

The day after Christmas is really the best

At the grocery store. Now, I\'ll lie down and rest.
