A gentle stroll by My River on Boxing Day morn
To cleanse mind and soul.
It showed the wonder of Christmas,
As the little ones walk and run with their parents,
Showing their shiny new toys.
The girl on her sparkling pink bike,
A little wobbly, but laughing with joy.
The toddler with her pushchair,
Taking her dolly out for a ride.
The young lady with her skates,
Unsteady but upright.
The elderly lady taking her dogs for a walk,
Both dressed as Father Christmas,
Seemed very strange to me.
Then there was me, as I lingered on the bridge,
Looking at the water gliding by,
My life doing the same.
Contentment flows through the spirit of my life;
I am such a fortunate man.
