Leaving a fine jewelry store
In the depths of wintertime
Saw a homeless man begging
But I didn’t give him a dime
I remembered a Bible verse
That condemned vile idleness
Still, I prayed he would repent
With my faith was satisfied
‘Cause I am a fervent Christian
And the Lord stands by my side
Walking through a narrow alley
On a lazy afternoon
Saw a woman looking forlorn
Her hair was a mess, her dress all torn
I thought she must be a sinner
Who deserves God’s punishment
Still, I prayed she would repent
With my faith was satisfied
‘Cause I am a fervent Christian
And the Lord stands by my side
As I strolled around the bend
On a hazy summer day
Saw two men holding hand
And I thought they must be gay
In disgust I recalled Leviticus
Bible verses on judgment
Still, I prayed they would repent
With my faith was satisfied
‘Cause I am a fervent Christian
And the Lord stands by my side
Driving through the town center
Saw a bunch of masked guards
Dragging down a brown-skin man
He repeated, papers I have for you
But for him I felt no pity
For he got what he was due
Still, I prayed he would repent
With my faith was satisfied
‘Cause I am a fervent Christian
And the Lord stands by my side
In front of a grand building
Standing saw a rich white man
I thought he must be a Christian
For wealth is reward divine
That the Almighty blesses riches
Is a truth we must confess
Still, I prayed for his success
With my faith was satisfied
‘Cause I am a fervent Christian
And the Lord stands by my side
When was time to say good night
I knelt right by my bedside
I recited my Bible verses
And my soul, she felt all right
For I saw some wretched people
Who deserve God’s punishment
Still, I prayed they would repent
With my faith was satisfied
‘Cause I am a fervent Christian
And the Lord stands by my side
