Roots

Characters are shaped by roots.
Roots sprout,
whispering the sound of life.

These whispering roots
are nurtured by soil.

But if the soil is barren—
filled with acid,
soaked in exasperation—
then the roots learn only that language.

They wither
before their season arrives,
because all they ever saw
was a barren, emotionless
ambience
wearing the face of a nurturer.
