If

If we are only atoms,
why do we ache for eternity.
If we are only accidents,
why do we long for meaning.
If we are only chemistry,
why do we dream beyond the grave.
If morality is invention,
why does guilt strike like thunder.
If purpose is self‑made,
why does it feel discovered.
If injustice is natural,
why does outrage feel righteous.
If love is biology
why does it outlive the body that held it.
If life is a brief spark in a cold void,
why does hope burn with the heat of something eternal.
If we are only matter,
why do we speak as if our lives matter.
