Matthew R. Callies

Sonnet to a Reese\'s

A golden wrapper whispers as it peels,
Revealing treasure shaped by sweetest fate.
A chocolate moat whose velvet touch conceals
The peanut butter heart I celebrate.

Each bite’s a chord—rich, salty, smooth, divine—
A harmony perfected by design.
Not too refined, nor coy with sugar’s shine,
Just bold enough to claim, “This taste is mine.”

The edges scalloped like a tiny crown;
The scent alone invites my love to rise.
No matter if the world feels upside down—
This simple treat restores a paradise.

So let the finest desserts beg and fuss—
The Cup reigns sweetly, royally, for us.
