I do not ask
which came first, the chicken or the egg.
Philosophy is not my concern at all;
my question lies in the terrain of language:
Was affirmation created first, or denial?
Did arrogance arrive before humility?
Did light precede darkness?
Did friendship take shape, or enmity?
Was love fashioned, or hatred?
Did truth emerge, or falsehood?
Was loyalty born, or betrayal?
What a troubling inquiry!
After a lifetime lost,
what difference does it make?

ابتدا مرغ بود یا تخممرغ؟
اصلاً مرا با فلسفه کاری نیست؛
:پرسشم در قلمرو زبان است
ابتدا تأیید ساخته شد یا انکار؟
کِبر آمد یا فروتنی؟
روشنایی پدیدار گشت یا تاریکی؟
دوستی شکل گرفت یا دشمنی؟
عشق پرداخته شد یا نفرت؟
راستی رخ نمود یا ناراستی؟
وفا زاده شد یا بیوفایی؟
!چه پرسشِ پریشانی
