The mind let loose is a wily old beast
Moving through shadows, ever slipping the knot,
Laying fresh tracks on the paths you forgot,
Gnawing when famine, parading when feast.
The mind let loose never settles in bed,
Restless and circling, always full of speculation,
Covering old ground in habitual rumination,
Pacing the corridors deep in your head.
The mind let loose — you must break or be broken!
You must tame it, harness it — lead it back inside,
Talk to it rationally, look it in the eye,
Or be swallowed slowly whole as it wrecks your emotions.
