Once more we went,
Went to the theatre
To see a big band.
Onto the stage they came,
All sixteen of them,
They started playing,
Playing big band jazz.
Mary and I looked at each other,
What were they playing?
It sounded out of tune,
We listened to more
And it just was not good,
It all sounded the same
Not like other bands we’d heard.
Maybe we have been spoiled
As we have heard such good music,
Such good music in the past.
We just could not stand it
So we left at half time
And went home.
What happened then was amazing
As I saw the second half,
The second half of a rugby match,
Possibly the best match ever,
The best match I’d ever seen.
Yes England lost to France
But it was an amazing match
And I was so glad to be home.
So my evening had both things,
That went from bad to wonderful
But as my lover was with me.
All my life was wonderful anyway.
