with pieces colored grey
Kings tweet, Queens bleat
insisting they know the way.
Bishops bless the mess
Knights kick over lessons
Rooks on tenterhooks
are trapped in endless sessions.
Pawns are shuffled
square to square
used when needed,
sacrificed without care.
The game is interesting
though played on thin air
I guess who we are facing
and who’s watching out there.
This match has no checkmates
just moves made in despair.
