On the Banks of the Volga by Iosif Utkin

This is fine, universally beloved song,

The song about Stepan  Cossack.

But there\'s one bad spot in it, alone,

Mother Volga River colossale.

But I disagree with one thing dead,

Oh, that Razin-esque fervor is!

Razin treated the poor Persian maiden

Ugly in this song as a bad sadist.

Separate—no one will hold you account last,

Sail away with the others to the war,

But to abandon... and not  abandon just

And into the oncoming wave? Bastard!

If this is a real fact, and not any concocted,

I\'m ashamed of Stepan the Cossack.

I don\'t like it when beauties are drowned,

In the Mother Volga River for sake!
