Cindy

Death\'s call

Death welcomes her
Into its warming, comforting hug,
As it swallows her
Beneath the soil
And the walls of her grave.

Death said, “It’s time.
You leave this world behind.”

Muffled screams,
Hidden behind everyone’s tears,
As she yelled, she yelled,
“I’m not ready yet!
Please, give me some time!”

She drowned in all her sins,
Her hands just above the surface,
Hoping someone would see them
And pull her back up to the surface
That held her deep within.

Instead, she was given
Two weights in each hand,
And she sank even more,
Her legs touching the sand.

She wakes up in bed,
Gasps for air,
Her heart dropping like a rollercoaster
Ten miles into the sky’s glare.

Her hand held to her chest,
Protecting the organs inside,
Feeling like they had been taken from her
And returned by the ocean’s tide.

Her body didn’t feel like hers,

A stranger
Held her soul,
Held her mind,
Seemingly in control
Of all her actions,
All her thoughts.

Nothing made sense.
They all buzzed around in tiny dots.

Death’s words echoed in her head,
Its voice soothing
In a rather harsh manner.

Guilt crept around her,
And regret whispered into her ears
Of every single thing she’d done,
As each letter
Left ruins behind.

She clenched her fists,
Ready to fight
The darkness
That held homes
In the blinding night.
