KNOCK DOWN AND REBUILD

The metal teeth
Of machinery scrapes
Well worn tarmac
Pavements shake
What once were houses
Now shattered homes
Piles of rubble
Broken bones.

Twisted metal
In concrete graves
Shudder surrended
No longer brave
Lives and deaths
Through passage time
Childhood to old age
Now longer bind.

Clouds of dust
As each it falls
Rooms and walls
No longer tall
The hungry metal
Smashes and grabs
So many memories
Bricks and sand.
