While I wait for a thought, an inspiring word,
let me tell you a story I recently heard.
On a beautiful morning, in the Spring, I think,
the kind of morning that makes you blink
at the colors of wildflowers from the window view,
the fresh morning sky, brilliant blue,
a day that demands a song of praise,
a storybook gift of a special day.
From her kitchen window, she saw it all.
Her response? Soft tears began to fall.
For even the beauty of this remarkable day
could not chase the sorrow away,
the silent house, the empty rooms;
no laughter now; they left too soon.
She thought of the table, stories told
as her loved ones passed bowl after bowl.
The joy that filled that modest room
far surpassed the wildflower\'s bloom.
Love was shared at the table that day,
but now they were gone; they couldn\'t stay.
They went back to their homes; life has its demands
leaving her here, alone to stand
at her kitchen window and wonder why
she could not control this urge to cry.
And then one by one their faces appeared
and as each one smiled, it all became clear:
her tears, first felt to be sorrow and pain,
were showers of love, like a fresh morning rain
that cleanses the soul and affirms once again
that love is the bridge from darkness to light,
love restores our limited sight,
giving us eyes in our hearts where we can see
this beautiful world in which there can be
celebrations of values we commonly share;
love is the way to get us there.
So, there on this lovely fresh Spring day,
she dried her tears and made her way
to that dining room table where love still lived
in the memories that only love can give.
Dear God, she prayed, let this table be
a sacred place where all can see
your face in each guest, my family, my friends.
The feast of love that never ends.
And with that she rose to meet the day,
this time in a very different way.
Well, that\'s the story I recently heard.
And here I wait for a thought, a word
that might become a poem, a song;
I guess I\'ll wait until it comes along.
Stop by again another day.
Maybe by then I\'ll have something to say.
