The service was over and coffee was served;
There was a lull in the talking when suddenly was heard
A sound so appealing that everyone turned
And smiled at the sound that was if a bird
Had flown in the room and was quite unconcerned
Of the pleasure that had occurred.
This sound, so resounding, so fresh and alive
Came not from a friend with songs to revive
The most hardened of hearts and darkest of souls;
But the laugh of a girl with a face that did thrive
On the joy that she gave to us older proles
To continue the day and be glad we’re alive.
