I gave up sleep for Lent.
Never much liked it.
I don\'t dream much,
But when I do,
They\'re mean and cruel.
I don\'t like powering off
The trillions of neurons
That are currently keeping
Me breathing, thinking, swallowing.
And yeah, I get tired sometimes.
It feels like a lead albatross around my neck
When I walk barefoot down
The concrete corridors of my city
As it grumbles in the night.
I wrap my bed in fancy sheets,
From egypt I think,
So she won\'t get cold without me.
I guess I get bored of the ritual.
Brush your teeth
Take your meds
Lay your head down and feel
With the authority of God,
The loneliness that makes sparrows cry in the spring.
Maybe it\'s not for me.
My record was six days,
But with some practice
And maybe a little help From the pharmacist,
I could make ten.
They say eleven days is the longest.
The guy who did it almost died.
That wouldn\'t be so bad, either.
