The Hypothetical

The day I first
Laid eyes upon you,
You were sitting there
Drinking a coffee,
Lost, in a world of your own.
I don\'t know why,
But I kept looking back.
There was something
So calm, so natural
About you.
Of course I soon realised
That you and calm have
Nothing in common,
But by that point,
It had become habit,
Noticing you, thinking about you,
Waiting impatiently
For another little moment.
Until, somewhere between
It all I realised,
I wasn\'t just seeing you,
I was starting to care.
Somewhere in all those
Little conversations,
Doubt turned into comfort,
Comfort into certainty.
No \'movie-style\' moment,
But something quieter, deeper
It didn\'t feel like
Something new at all,
But like continuing something
That had started
As you sat there
With your coffee.
You didn\'t rush me...
Maybe that was the beauty of it.
