Poetic Dan

Holy cow ( moon & sea)

[INTRO – spoken, reflective]

Here\'s a reflective view as a father of 21 years,

and now two little ones again.

A parent\'s love will, to start with, lift the child up,

give them a cloud to sit upon,

make them feel like nothing else matters in this world

other than running into your parents\' arms

to feel the warmth, comfort, and safety.

That love will be everything.

The essence of what you need.

The breath of your life

is the love from your mother and father.

[VERSE 1]

And then at some point,

that’s going to slip.

And that love is going to become crushing to them,

too much, overbearing,

to the point that they just don’t need it or want it,

and they’ll cut you off.

So you will literally go

from being the very essence of

you couldn’t give them enough love,

they just want more and more and more,

they soak it up, they soak it up,

they make it —

You just wanna pile more and love in,

and they love it,

you love them,

they love it,

everything’s amazing.

And then there’ll be this switch.

[PRE-HOOK – lift]

And who knows when the switch happens?

You just don’t know.

It happens when it happens, really —

fluidity.

[HOOK]

Holy cow.

Did I know I am sacred to my own land?

Pow, pow.

I have no hold over my children

and my children have no hold over me.

I am just grateful for the journey.

Moon and the sea,

pushing the tides constantly —

that is life’s melody.

[VERSE 2]

Because the most challenging part

is they push you,

they pull you,

they make you go beyond limits

you didn’t know you had.

Each time you explain something to them

you go —

oh no,

I think I need to practice what I preach.

Now I’ve told it to you,

I need to do it myself.

Or sometimes you explain something to your child

and you go,

well, I never thought of it like that —

but now explaining it to you,

it makes more sense to me.

Thank you.

And we both go off.

Diddly! diddley dee

Because, you know,

they grow,

we grow.

[BRIDGE – emotional expansion]

At first I was the sun.

Arms like gravity.

Now I am the moon.

Pulling from distance.

Not less love.

Just different form.

I have no hold over my children.

And my children have no hold over me.

Only tides.

Only rhythm.

Only return.

[FINAL HOOK – fuller, powerful]

Holy cow.

Did I know I am sacred to my own land?

Pow, pow.

No chains.

No ownership.

No control.

Just gratitude.

Moon and the sea,

pushing the tides constantly —

that is life’s melody.

And I am just grateful

for the journey
