I talked to my ancestors.
They asked about life today,
And I said the world had changed.
It was no longer like yesterday.
I said the world had changed,
Much in ways we now despise,
For we see the lighted pathways
Through people we can’t recognize.
But indeed, the world has changed.
It has turned toward the good,
And the earth is now learning
From what it once misunderstood.
We are becoming much better,
Though perhaps, from the outside,
Looks have become concealing
Of all the rot inside.
One thing about the world,
The one and only rule,
Is that nothing is given to you
Unless you let it take from you too.
Perhaps if we all listened
To the voices that have called,
We would change what lies inside
And give the world our all.
I talked to my ancestors,
And they were indeed left appalled
By the world that has now changed
Into the dreams of ages past.
