Sonnet For Elliott.

For Elliott, now upon your twenty-first,
We mark the years with gratitude and pride;
A child once quick with wonder, joy, and thirst,
Now stands with strength and kindness as your guide.

Your laughter lit the rooms through passing days,
Your courage grew through every test and turn;
You meet the world with calm, unshowy grace,
And keep a heart still eager yet to learn.

May friendship, purpose, love, and hope be near,
May honest labour bring its rightful due;
May every dream grow clearer, year by year,
And bright good fortune walk the road with you.

Though time moves on, one truth will still endure:
You are much loved, and that love shall stay sure.
