FIX YOU

Who was I to believe
that every crack could be sealed
by showing up one more time,

who would I become
if I learned not to miss you,

I crossed state lines
to find small pockets of time with you,
chasing conversations between departures
collecting hours like precious coins,

I gave what I had
Not because love demanded it
but because my heart knew no smaller language,
it was never like me
to place my heart in someone\'s hands
without keeping a piece for myself,

Now you grow distant
a shoreline pulling away from the tide,
and every distance between us
feels heavier than it should,

I searched for different endings,
different words,
different versions of us
where your mind would change
and your love would stay,

I ignored the warnings,

They said you\'d leave,

I called it doubt,
I called it fear,
I called it everything except the truth,

It will always be easy to blame you
But it\'s my fault for thinking I could fix you.
