When I forgive you

I would’ve understood if you had said you were scared - but instead you spat your words into my face just because you couldn’t stomach who I am.

I find it strange, you harbour such hatred for a stranger, and you’ll find it strange when I hold kindness to your anger. To all the things you said.

you fear what you don’t understand, and you follow only what you’re taught, but you won’t come close to getting rid of me.

They stare,

they point,

they laugh,

and that’s okay.

Their opinions shouldn’t change how I feel about me.

Parade your feelings about me, throw my identity into my face, it won’t change me.

I find it strange, you harbour such hatred for a stranger, and you’ll find it strange when I hold kindness to your anger. To all the things you said.

And you’d find it strange when I forgive you.
