Square One

Square One

In the sweetest of voices I heard her saying my name.

She thought I could not hear her, but I listened anyway,

As her friends told her move on, he’s not worth the time,

And she listened intently and took their advice,

Like a pill to cure cancer and then disappeared.

I waited a year for her to reappear,

But she was gone to The Heaven’s to never return,

So I found someone to love, who wasn’t her.

The second I fell in love, madly, deeply, truly,

She came back to haunt me like the greatest of memories,

That you just can’t resist, but life is not a straight line.

It’s been filled with cool curves, but all that love was a lie.

So I wished another wish.

I cherished a new kiss.

It simply wasn’t real,

But I thought love exists.

So I gave it a chance,

And we danced the slow-dance.

We spoke the words truthfully,

But we didn’t understand...

...that the odds of two people meeting are a billion to one.

The chance of them falling in love is the square root of all people.

We hope for an equal, but one plus one is never as simple, as simple.

So in the end, all of the mathematics has been done,

And she is gone,

And I am left in pieces,

Back at square one...
