between them

\"between them\"

The poet touches the water first.
 The spring shivers
 — in spite a warmth
      of recognition.

It knows the hand that stirs it.

 Later, the reader
 touches the same water
. The spring shivers again,
             but differently

, because a different mind
  has entered its surface.

 The poem is the ripple
 that travels between them.
