Switched Roles

I was called the ruthless villain.
I was hated and despised.
All the looks that burned my weary soul,
Their eyes carved me inside.

I was the big bad guy in movies.
They would boo me by my name.
I would play the vicious villain,
Blinded by the hollow fame.

I was drawn in colored comics,
Except all my suits were black.
And the only color dripped on me
Was red after attack.

I played hide and seek with mirrors,
And the seekers were my eyes.
I would hide behind the masks
And the filth of all my lies.

I would run from all my problems
Until drilled into my head,
And they’ve now become a part of me,
The younger me would dread.

I was solely called the villain,
Never broken or misread.
So I chose to flip the shards in me
And switched the roles instead.
