A Different Way

And so it is, about this hour,
as darkness fades away,
I reach for courage, strength and hope
to face the dawning day.

Daily headlines frighten me;
I\'m shocked by what they say.
The greed and ruthlessness of man
create the price we pay.

Suspicions spawn our thoughlessness,
hatred blocks the way
for trust and kindness to attend
those whom we\'ve thrown away.

What is the value of one life?
The cost of freedom\'s song?
Where in the course of daily life
did we go so very wrong?

And so it is, about this hour,
I search for what to say.
When on the first light of the dawn
the message comes my way.

Fear not, for all the headline news.
There is a better way.
Bow your head, your heart, your soul;
fall to your knees and pray.

But when you\'ve said your final prayer,
announced the last Amen,
get up, stand tall and take my hand;
this is where tough love begins

Love those who love you least of all;
defend the left behind;
stand for justice, honor truth
and this will be our sign.

Out of the shadows of the night,
apart from fears and strife,
we will be known by those who live
the sacredness of life.

And so it is, at this same hour,
as darkness turns to day,
I find the courage, strength and hope
to live a different way.
