Finding the voice

It grows within my heavy frame,
With nowhere left to go,
A burning heat, an inner flame,
A heart that hurts below.

The tears can never find their way,
My throat can barely speak,
The headaches cloud my mind today,
And silence offers leak.

And yet, the words now find my hands,
The writing starts to flow,
Unsure at first of where it lands,
It soon begins to grow.

A breach is opened in the wall,
My sorrow breaks its bound,
It’s almost like I hear a call,
A clear and gentle sound.

And yet the noise is still held back,
No words can reach the air,
The shadows rise in deep attack,
With fury and despair.

Then angels come to walk with me
And bring a sudden light,
So for a moment I am free
From darkness and the night.

With tenderness, the hours pass,
My voice begins to clear,
The light becomes a friend at last,
And gently draws me near.

I find new friends along the way,
Who know the pain I bear,
They give me strength to stand and say
The truth we come to share.

The sentences begin to fly
And take me higher still,
The tears fall softly from my eye,
And wash away the chill.

For now I truly want to speak,
To tell the path I trod,
To find the answers that I seek
Beneath the open sky.

The light is shining all around,
I step into the sun,
No longer hidden, trapped, or bound—
The silence is undone.

My voice is out, it rises high,
Unstoppable and clear,
It echoes through the open sky
For all the world to hear.

No wall can hold me back today,
No jail can lock my mind.
I break the cage, I force my way,
And leave the dark behind!
