THE RELUCTANT SOLDIER

Hear the siren
In the distance
Grown men
Shudder and cry
Incoming from
All sides
Wipe those tears
From your eyes.

Because you are
The reluctant soldier
Sent a letter
To go out and die
Leave your home
Your job and family
Raise the flag
And say goodbye.

To become a number
Figures on a map
Moved around a table
Generals are sat
The office types letters home
So sorry for your loss
Always died a hero
Shall never be forgot.
