These days my fingernails stay longer

These days my fingernails stay longer

The edges may be jagged, uneven

And my fingertips may still be the first point of contact with the dirt

But when the restless stress arises

And my leg begins to run on a motor

The urge to bite and tear is less and the discomfort passes

Less and less do I have to use a credit card to scratch the itch

The patches of red on my face are not as prominent

The tears I used to shed of misery are now of ecstasy

Found the joy I used to carry like a badge of honor, somehow lost along the way

Life doesn\'t feel like as much of a hurdle anymore

Some days are still bad, they always will be

But hightides are no longer pulling me out to sea

No longer gasping for air between the waves, now viewing them from the pier

These days my fingernails are longer

These days my heart grows fonder

Of all the best parts that this World has to offer
