I took the heart from a corner store
\"Don\'t tell,\" I\'d implore
Some shrugged it off
They\'d seen it all before
The heart was soft and new
It felt good and true
Just perfect for me
Since I gave my last one to you
I hid it carefully in my bag
And made sure it did not sag
I snuck it out the door
Past the lady taking a drag
It\'d be too much to buy
Prices for hearts were much too high
People would take hearts from others
So there was a shortage in that supply
So I held mine close
And didn\'t give it away for a rose
This one was precious
Not worth something pleasant to the nose
