Why We\'re Here
We race through life with hurried feet,
Chasing victories, chasing defeat.
We build our walls, we stake our claim,
Then spend our lives protecting a name.
We argue over wrong and right,
And turn our neighbors into fights.
We count our dollars, count our years,
Yet rarely face our deepest fears.
We fill our days with endless noise,
Collecting things and temporary joys.
The louder life becomes each year,
The less we ask why we\'re really here.
Were we meant to conquer every land,
Or simply lend a helping hand?
To leave behind a trail of gold,
Or warm a heart when nights grow cold?
Some climb mountains seeking fame,
Some spend lifetimes chasing gain.
Yet when the final curtain falls,
None of us can keep it all.
The rich, the poor, the weak, the strong,
Are only passing through so long.
A borrowed breath, a fleeting stay,
Then like the sunset, fade away.
Perhaps we\'re here to love and learn,
To lift each other in return.
To plant good seeds we may not see,
And leave the world more kind than we.
But somewhere throughout the years,
Many have forgotten why we\'re here.
