Washing my sins

Dust on my shoulders, dirt on my boots Walking the path that I didn\'t choose Carrying shadows that grew in the night Begging for mercy, on my knees

The mirror is fractured, the reflection is blurred Hearing voices that haven\'t been heard. Washing my sins in the rising tide Drowning the secrets I tried to hide

The salt in the water, the sting in the air Stripping the weight that I couldn\'t bear I’m shedding the skin of the person I was Finding a reason to stay alive

The current is pulling, it’s cold on my skin Washing away where the wreckage has been I’m dropping the anchor, I’m cutting the line Taking back moments I thought weren\'t mine The ghosts in the hallway are losing their grip I’m finding my balance, I’m steadying the ship.

It isn’t  magic, it isn’t a cure But the cold of the current is finally pure I’m letting the wreckage drift out to the deep Trading the promises I couldn’t keep

For a breath that is steady, a heart that is new Washing the old soul away from the view. Washing my sins in the rising tide Drowning the secrets I tried to hide The salt in the water, the sting in the air

Stripping the weight that I couldn\'t bear I’m shedding the skin of the person I was Finding a reason to stay alive

Gone with the current, gone with the wind I’m walking away, letting them go Into the depths where the dark waters flow Washing away my sins.
