Let Me Be Weak With You

They look to me when things go wrong,
so I straighten up and say we\'re fine.
I give them answers, keep them strong,
because someone has to hold the line.

I show up whenever I\'m needed,
I laugh when I\'m supposed to smile,
I hide the weight that leaves me depleted,
and carry it quietly all the while.

Everyone sees the one who leads,
no one sees what leadership costs.
They only notice their many needs,
never the pieces I\'ve already lost.

But even mountains lose their height,
when years of storms have worn them thin.
To you I\'ll lower my guard tonight,
and let someone see the weight within.

And if I ever lose the strength to stand,
I hope you\'ll be the one to take my hand.
