Jabberwocky

Fools Mate (2)

At sixteen you were fit for kings
Who courted you with dainty things
But out of hubris more than pride
You would not be one good man\'s bride.

With many men you came together
Wearing shame light as a feather.
At thirty five now looking back
It\'s plain the value that you lack,

And when you look into the glass
And see the best of you is passed
You hear no footfall on the stair
To love the you no longer there.

As one who loved you as before
Would see you always evermore,
For through loves eyes a beauty seen
Remains as it has always been,

How quickly then the pieces fall
Destroying your protective wall
No clever moves were ever needed
To seal the fate that you so seeded,

And starting now to put on weight
And lose the appetite to date
You\'ll settle down at last to rule
A humble home owned by a fool.
