Wherefore mark thy Temple, thou caretaker?
See its columns, courtyards, and curtains swell;
See its colours, artworks, stairways as well;
Look ‘pon the courts, chambers, and hallways too.
Know ye not it’s the Holy of Holies?
Wherefore dethrone His Design with thine own?
Of frescoes, of mosaics, of paintings,
Of statues, of other adornments too.
Alas thy Lord’s Temple is of Babel’s.
Who hath laid this carnality in thine heart?
Art thou not God’s? Art thou whom He entrusts?
Unthrone thyself, servant; unmark thereof;
Enthrone thy Sovereign; reign in Christ henceforth.
Wherefore make Holy His Temple to dwell.
