At 3 AM, I heard a knock,
Three slow taps beneath my floor.
I held my breath, I checked the clock.
Then heard three more.
I whispered, “Who is there?”
Something whispered back, “You.”
I froze beneath the blanket
As the bedroom door crept through.
My window slammed. The lights went dead.
A cold hand touched my face.
I felt two fingers trace my eyes.
Then something took my place.
I ran toward the bedroom door,
But stopped when I looked down.
My feet were standing on the floor.
My shadow wasn\'t around.
Then from beneath my bed came laughter,
Soft and wet and low.
And a voice said:
“You shouldn\'t have looked beneath me.”
By lilly.
