Dressing The Corpse

The people are being brought together,

Stare ahead with unblinking eyes and walk on in a beeline ,

Walk in a beeline , with weapons in your hand ,

A knife, a gun , a spade , a sword,

You hold with your white knuckles,

With your stiched , strained and split smile.

Walk on for the wise men shall lead the way ,

The priests, preachers and pastors making sure no one is gone astray ,

Do not question their wisdom, child,

For they are wise,

Wise beyond their years ,

Men of God who can do no wrong ,

They will preach against sins and greed ,

While being consumed by their own acts of greed ,

While the shadow of their sinful past falls on them,

But you shall turn a blind eye,

For they are the wise men,

And you , you are a mere child.

They will lead the people to the graveyard, lead the people to the gore ,

Where lay the bodies of the ones we killed ,

Decaying and dead ;

Covered in filth.

The corpses are all six feet under,

Look around; look alive,

Choose one you like best ,

Choose your victim,

Choose your vessel,

And we shall begin the ritual.

The ritual has begun,

Wise men will instruct you further,

Gather around the grave and start digging,

Keep digging,

And digging,

And digging,

Until the soil and the sins have dissolved into one ,

Until you can no longer extinguish between yourself and the beast you were taught to fear.

The wise men will stand and watch and give you instructions,

Instructions that are cold , clinical and crude ,

And you will listen,

Because that is what you do,

Until you have a body on your hands,

Decaying, and covered in fluids of gore and filth, now having a second skin,

A second skin made of maggots writhing and crawling on every inch of rotting skin.

The body you dug up .

You will take the body to the lab,

And spend hours removing the maggots using sterile forceps with shaking hands,

The men will give you orders and you will obey,

And the body will be bathed in blood.

Slap on paint on the carcass ,

Make it look just enough human,

Trim the flesh, thin it down ,

Mould the skin like clay and create your plaything,

Stich on a smile; wide and unmoving,

A pleasant expression on putrid skin ,

Tape the eyes open ; warm and welcoming.

Dress the corpse in clothes,

Clothes tight and translucent,

So you can leer at the flesh you moulded,

Cover the features dead and decaying,

Foundation to hide the filth,

Concealer to hide the cavities,

Lipstick to hide the lies,

Blush to hide the bruises.

Inject the cadaver,

Make it come alive,

Wind the key in it\'s spine,

Until the body you dug up is walking and talking and smiling and moving.

The wise men shall draft an instruction manual,

Which you will read out to the corpse,

Instruct it on sins and slaughter,

Teach it to bow to the men as it\'s tradition,

Teach it to turn a blind eye and follow specific rules,

What it can do , for the men allow it ,

And everything it shall be punished for, for the wisdom of the men deem it sinful.

The corpse will live on ,

Blend in amongst people like you,

Keep it\'s head down, and obey the priests , preachers and pastors,

The corpse will learn all it has to do is smile and nod,

As that is all it is allowed to do ,

Smile and nod at the gore and the gluttony,

Smile and nod at the butchery and the bloodshed.

Until a day shall come,

When the people will come together,

And upon orders of the wise men,

You shall be killed,

Stabbed brutally, your blood on the floor,

They will cave out your body; guts spilled all across,

As the wise men watch your beheaded skull lie a few feet away,

As they sneer and laugh,

You cannot blame them, child ,

For they had to do it,

Give up an offering,

Give up a sacrifice,

A lamb to the slaughter,

A tribute for the altar .

Days and months shall pass by,

And the trace of your existence is erased,

You are nothing but forgotten folklore,

Buried six feet under.

Until the wise men will gather the people once again,

People staring ahead, walking in a beeline,

Weapons held in white knuckles,

And stiched, strained and split smiles,

Led by the wise men they will walk to the graveyard and the gore,

And soon enough, the very corpse you dug up once will now be digging your grave ,

Once again, a corpse shall be dressed,

Except this time around, the corpse is you ,

Soon enough, you will be the corpse nodding with a strained smile,

Soon enough, you\'ll be the corpse digging up another grave,

And the cycle will continue,

The curse shall carry on.
