Is profit the only purpose of life?

You sold your village away,
In the name of progress, you sold the fields,
For the sake of dreams, you sold your life,
Life turning into a marketplace.

Pure, clear air once flowed, moment by moment,
Birdsong echoed without pause,
Every rhythm of it lost, moment by moment,
Now there is only smoke, the harsh din of engines.

In this blind race of glitter and glare,
Humanity lies buried in the noise of machine parts,
We forgot the difference between living and dying,
In our hunger for wealth, we lost all meaning.

Was the land yours, that you sold it?
Was the air yours, that you sold it?
Where are the springs and rivers now?
You sold it all, one hundred percent.

In craving more than we ever needed,
We dissolved poison in the air,
We dissolved poison in the water,
Poisoned grows our home, our society.

For cheap dreams, we traded away tomorrow,
We handed our future to the darkness,
In the name of jobs, we sold our children,
The merchant age of Kali swallowed everything.

In the hands of machines and contractors,
We were ruined by our own hands,
We fouled the air and water with our own hands,
Is profit the only purpose of life?
