Henry Vande Hey

Thy Kingdom Come

Do you know that intense feeling of loneliness?

A tight, knot, wrapped around the heart, which snaps?

Gushing blood, tears, and all the dreams I\'ve lived

And hoped, still hope, exist?

Could you expect from the heart less

Than mourning at the death of his friend,

Even amidst the joy and bliss of fellowship?

I mean it\'s true, I\'m where you

Want me to be: here

Now. Not there, then: here. Now.

These are the men I\'ll grow to love,

Another thread in the rope, the cord

Which wraps the heart in such a fold,

It\'s helpless once its bonds are pulled.

This never ceasing cycle: Loving just to lose...

I mean it\'s safer just to drive away

Alone, than have to try and say

I love you to the girl whose back

Is turned and miles down the road

Beaten, beating out heart\'s chord

To another who is wrapping cords

Around her tender harp.

I mean...I want...I see...

Why should I cry these selfish tears

Reminiscing lost innocence?

My heart\'s in hers, and not with you,

The cord I\'ve wrapped has snapped in two.

So chain me Lord into your life,

And grant me Lord your holy bride.

Amen.
