Entangled heart

An Elegy for What Never Was

What never was, was never meant to be,

and what once was will never return to me.

What could’ve been became what had to end,

a future we imagined that we could not defend.

The things we said, the good, and the bad,

became the ghosts of what we had.

We spoke of forever, then watched it decay,

each promise growing colder with every passing day.

Perhaps it was never for the better,

only wounds disguised as words in a letter.

For all that we wanted, for all that we knew,

the hardest truth is I still wanted you.
