Youth brings energy, rising
and big thoughts, big dreams
and an unsearchable horizon
of newness and beauty.
As the sun moves on its celestial circuit
the dazzling warmth fades
the warm glow cools
and novelty becomes banal
and energy is replaced with fatigue
and, as the sun sets
we desparately seize on those sun dogs
those flashes of life
that once held our rapt attention
until the day the sun sets
and all is dark.
