To be seen

The words die on my tongue
Remains reach though your filtered ears
Thoughts raging and rebelling in my head
While I say that I agree

I wonder about the version of me
That lives past your refining eyes
Can you see through it?
Can you see through my shell?

Something inside me says this isn\'t right
Somewhere I feel guilty and filthy
Perhaps there were more tears than suffering
Perhaps there was more blame than reason

But something else argues and betrays
It wants to betray and it wants to be seen
It wants to scream storms it wants to cry rivers
It wants for the bullet to gouge out so the wound may heal

A third being wants answers
It just wants to understand
It seems pretty angry for something so innocent
When all it wants is to be seen, why does it hide?

The being, the third, it follows no reason
It does what is easy, be it right or wrong
It hates so much, its hatred so ugly,
How can something such be a part of me?

There is something so intimate
In being seen

I wonder how much you can see of me
Can you see me trying to fight my fear?
Did you notice I was getting better?
Do you notice that I’m trying so hard?

Or does it not matter anymore?
For I still wasn\'t enough
While the sun and stars make their own light
I simply reflect it and pretend to glow

I don’t think I want to be seen
I know you hate it when I hide,
But what is there but judgment
Behind all those eyes?

Such an ugly thing, to be seen
