The Dreamer

As I sleep I tend to dream

About what I hardly know

Adventures I have by the dozen

Through Wind and Rain and Snow

Sometimes I am an Astronaut

In a spaceship far away

Whizzing around the Universe

A different planet every day

Or sometimes I am a Cowboy

Riding the range all day and night

Or sometimes in a bar room brawl

At least I live to see daylight

Wherever dreams may take me

When I awake the memories but distant blur

I rarely remember where I have been

It’s funny how this happens to occur

I never recollect exactly what I have seen

Or even when it even started out

My Dreams seem so real it frightens me

It makes me want to shout out loud

The pictures in my mind it leaves behind

As to exactly what I may have gone and done

But then I remember that it is only a dream

Always followed by another one

Soon another one springs into my mind

Dreams happen to all of us

It keeps our minds sharp a night

Unless it a really changes to cause a fuss

Turns into a nightmare through the night

The mind can play tricks on us

Let us think that what we dream is real

O boy it would cause an awful fuss

As we drift off into that special place

To see what we reveal when we are asleep

Tonight it will be interesting to see what I may become

I must awake and take a peep

No one knows exactly what causes us

To dream and to act so dumb

But It happens forever and a day

Without it how drab my nightly sleep would become.
