I creak and weep,
Repeat all I’ve done yesterday.
(Feel the dirt under my heels,
Touch the sun, before it sets,
And the day turns a midnight hue,
Where space cadets offer their memory
to white dwarfs)
Keep walking,
Keep walking away.
The pale woman haunts me,
She never spoke.
Her nails are dirt-covered,
Her eyes are closed,
Her lips are cracked,
Her hair is grey-white.
The midnight space between us,
It never grows -
She nears me every millisecond I turn my eyes.
The space that took up yesterday,
It starts to crumble.
Nature overtakes it,
If I look back,
I might soon follow.
I creak and weep,
I have lost what I was,
But I dread looking back.
The space between us will shrink over time.
The pale woman will take my hands,
Now as shrivelled as hers, slowly greying, blueing.
Her cracked lips will form a comforting smile.
”You’ve had enough time to play. Come back home”,
She will demand.
I will embrace her and she will creak, I will weep.
I’m still a lamb, and don’t understand yet,
I’ve had enough time to question every secret she brought me,
But not enough the answer them:
That was never the point, was it?
She leaves me with more questions than answers.
