Primrose

Depression holds my hand

I don’t think people understand how terrifying depression is

It’s so damn terrifying

It’s the way it lures you in

It has a soft touch

It reaches out for you,

Caressing your face

Wrapping around you

Holding you so tight

It’s a dangerous familiarity

By the time you usually figure it out, it feels too late

Depression draws you in

Promising to never let go

It whispers sweet nothings

Telling you poison laced words

You drink them in like it’ll heal your soul

But the venom eats away at you

It happens so slowly

Darkness disguised as prince charming

That sparkle you saw distracted you from its crooked smile

So you take its hand and let it pull you in

They ask why you don’t want to get better

You do

But depression is so sweet

So caring

It promises to always be there

Intertwining your fingers

Holding your once empty hand

Telling you “I’ll never let go”

“Give into me”

“I’ve got you”

Who would give that up?

Depression never leaves me

It always makes sure I’m not alone

Always there,

Watching, waiting

Ready to step in

Depression is comforting

Holding me tight when I struggle

But if you don’t pay attention,

You’ll miss what’s happening

It’s touch is now rough

The caresses have turned sharp

The tightening grip hurts

It uses its familiarity to drag you down

Silencing your screams with its hand

Its once warm eyes are cold

It holds on as you struggle to fight

You’re running out of energy

Trying to keep your eyes open

But Depression is persistent

And never lets up
