Thallo

Lethe

I used to be a minor goddess,

A flowing river.

And now I can’t even remember my own name.

My mind carries only emptiness,

And my sister’s face is missing.

(I only see it on milk cartons,

And she is forgotten within milliseconds.)

I think I might have been someone,

Before time gnawed away at my mind.

I think I have lost myself completely,

To myself, to time.

If I could find my sister,

I might regain myself.

I don’t recognise myself

when I look in the swirling, rustling mirror,

Crashing into the shore.

Glassy eyes staring back into mine,

Nails bitten to the bone,

Trying to touch what was,

Whispers coming from what was me,

Telling me ’Impossible.’
