One night before parting I dreamt you, giving you perfect shape and appearance
I wanted you and I still do because my heart and body cry out for you
I loved you and still love you because you nourish and complete my soul
That\'s why I searched for you but without even knowing how to find you yet
By contemplating you, celestial body and reflected face of my heart’s desire,
I learned to love and adore you, you pale and freckled beauty like the Moon
Because you gave your light, blood and love to the stars, you begot them
So that with them you light up my nights, my dreams and my life.
My bright little star and vital energy, I chased and searched for you from port to port,
And in the open and agitated sea, fervently and tirelessly,
Almost as if I were doomed to undertake an eternal and aimless journey
Like the Flying Dutchman, to be a lost lover and hopeless romantic.
Walking the beaches in Rio, I looked for you and felt the soft and pleasant breeze
As if it were your caress and a whisper to my ears, my little mermaid,
Making this dreamer of a sailor to want to meet you amongst the waves,
You’re a girl prettier than that blonde who once graced and inspired Ipanema.
On the outskirts of the Río de la Plata I looked for you, while admiring the amber sky
Once again I remembered your sweet face, tender smile and silky red hair
You are my good omen; my warm, encouraging and bright Sun of May
My sweet sunshine, my sweet darling, my sip of Malbec, my wine-flavored elixir.
From Tierra del Fuego to Valparaíso, between the gray skies and harsh cold,
I looked for you, my compass, my lighthouse, my safe haven, my refuge and ray of light,
Both the Pearl of the Pacific with its majestic views as well as the City of Kings
With its spectacular cliffs fell short by not harboring your beauty.
Finally, after reaching the coffee lands I searched for you on the Caribbean coast,
Where in the Magical and Heroic City, we were greeted with scorching sun and hellish heat,
But nothing as strong as the warmth of your love, beautiful girl of jewel-like eyes,
Not even all the emeralds in all of Colombia are worth more than your glance.
I’d looked for you from high and low, long and wide, by day and night
But already back home, even after surviving everything I almost gave up hope
Until I finally discovered the way to you, that you are far away but also near
And that only by crossing the Atlantic once more I will finally be able to reach you!
