Rap music is poetry, don\'t contest it, just stop,
Legends in the game, old school talent on lock.
Disrespectful degenerates trying to destroy a genre?
Appearing practically from nowhere, showing no honour.
Zero dues paid and only internet likes and views,
Bypassing the gatekeepers, hard drug abuse.
Real lyrics and the flow, personality on show,
Asking ourselves, where the hell did that go?
We went from Hip Hop Hooray to practically,
These inebriate fools with pretty much nothing to say.
It\'s no surprise that only true wordplay still sells tickets,
Newer artist\'s labels manipulate those streaming digits.
Fight The Power was released in 1989 so where\'s your statement?
Nullified and soulless, demon time clown rappers with ill intent.
The real rappers are laughing at whoever said poetry is dead.
How can the heart of poetry not be beating with all these metaphors in their head?
And when I say real rappers, I’m not talking about Central Cee.
Mumbling about stacks of cash, his soul is sold and not to poetry.
Like Pac said, “Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
I say the darker the flesh then the deeper the roots.”
If you read that written by pen,
With no beat, no accent,
You’d be sure to feel poetry running through your bones.
Sometimes poetry is written in studios, not just in lonely homes.
So if you can find it somewhere in your soul,
Next time you hear a rap song, listen to the lyrics alone.
You might just discover some of the best poetry you can find.
Sometimes behind an album cover is where poetry hides.
Just depends on the person, from different lives, doing a different grind.
Just find the right rappers, not the ones with one hand covering an eye.
