JUAN MIGUEL MORENO VILLAMIZAR

The Madness of Love The Feeling of Surrender.

The world stood still

the instant I met you;

my pulse and my very soul

surrendered to your name.

Your scent enchants me,

your smile lights my soul.

Without you, I don\'t know what I\'d be —

you are my joy amid the storm.

I long always to be at your side,

to feel your sweetness

and your gentle humor.

You are a flower still blooming,

a giant sunflower with immense petals

that stand for your arms

and the way they open

to hold me close.

I want to hear your voice, enchanting flower,

the loveliest in my garden,

the fullest of love.

Thank you for being there for me,

for making me feel, for the first time,

in love.

Creation grew more beautiful with your presence;

even the fiercest beasts were tamed

by your calm.

The flowers bloomed at your smile,

and God blessed you with the most precious gifts:

your charm and your virtues,

which make me happy to have

a woman as blessed as my beloved.

Aphrodite looked upon you

and granted you eternal beauty.

With that angelic face you enchant everyone,

but I am the fortunate one who holds your love,

the guardian of the flower,

the one who will care for it

and stand forever by its side.

I want to feel your mouth, that great sweetness

I imagine when I think of your lips.

The sweetness of honey and the taste of strawberries

call me back to you, beautiful lady;

you enchanted me, you bound me

to remain always beside you,

oh my beautiful sunflower,

the loveliest in all creation.

Feeling

The madness of love shows in your writings —

knowing why it exists, understanding

what two people in love can do.

It is understanding just how far one can go;

one must admit that when two souls are drawn together

a magic instant unfolds

in which thought and feeling

join to form a single soul.

It is drawing apart and, at once, drawing near;

it is the heartbeat that explains why, even distant,

two hearts feel bound by love.

Two hearts come together and set out

on an adventure full of complexity and disagreement,

but love conquers all.

The poet, then, reflects in his verses

the fullest expression of that mutual surrender:

the open soul, heart and mind as one.

To be in connection, almost by telepathy,

to feel the other as present — that is

the madness of love, that reason beyond reason,

the cause for which the world, for one instant,

stands still in pure wonder.
